  1. Concussions in sports are a huge deal and were overlooked for too long. Now sports leagues are realizing the effects of concussions and doing things to prevent them, for example the targeting rule in football. Concussions are just part of the game people will get injured because of them but sports teams and doctors have to take all the precautions to determine if a player can return to play or not. Tackle football at grades 3-6 is something I would keep around, when you are teaching kids that young to hit and play football you can teach them how to hit the right way and to protect their heads. Neither parents or the athletes are the problem, its the lack of attention to get the players with concussions healed.

  2. Concussions are a big deal in sports today and need to be taken seriously. At the beginning, sports team were trying to hide the stats, but now they are trying to prevent concussions. Injuries are part of playing sports, but limiting them is the goal. Many people are experimenting and developing new ways to limit injuries in all sports. I think teaching kids at a younger age to tackle properly would benefit in less injuries. Parents want their kids safe, so I think they will understand in the end. Players are defiantly use to how sports use to be played and just need to adjust, which will take time.

  3. I think that concussions in sports aren’t taken as seriously as they should be. I don’t think that sport leagues are necessarily keeping concussions as a secret, I think that concussions just aren’t being handled the right way. My younger sister got out of my car on a windy day and the car door swung back and hit her in the back of the head. At first we laughed it off but after a week of constant headaches and nausea my parents took her to the doctor. There, she was diagnosed with a 2nd degree concussion. I remember when she took the doctor's note to cross country practice. Her so called “friends” made fun of her and my coach even made jokes about the situation. She had to sit out for 2 full weeks of the season. No one believed her and thought that she was faking it. I think the reason that concussions are kind of pushed to the side is because the symptoms aren’t abnormal if you have a 1st or 2nd stage concussion. A lot of people are uneducated on the long term effects concussions can have on your brain. If bad enough, you could ultimately die. I think that any sport should pay close attention to their athletes and their physical health. You don’t have to be in a contact sport in order to get a concussion. I got one by falling out of a bounce house when I was 6. Concussions are serious and need to be a priority in all sports.

  4. I do not believe concussions are being taken as seriously as they should be, most people do not even think about them until they get one. There are ways they can be prevented but overall they are just part of the game and people know the risk every time they get on the field. Starting to teach younger generations to play the game properly would benefit them in the long run. Concussions should not be a normal recurrence and we should have extra steps being taken to prevent them, especially in adolescents. I do not believe parents are the problem. There are way too many uneducated players who do not know the full risks of a concussion or the risk of playing before they are fully healed. To most young players, it is all about the game and that is where it gets serious. Concussions are a well known issue but they should be taken more seriously.

  5. I believe it is extremely important to monitor concussions in sports. It is a big deal because having second impact syndrome is non reversible and can impact your life forever. According to "The Concussion Blog" this syndrome has 95% life long brain effects rate and a 65-70% mortality rate. CTE is also something athletes should try and eliminate as it accumulates tae proteins. CTE kills cells in regions responsible for mood, emotions, and executive functioning. Concussions are a big deal and should not just be apart of the game.Teaching kids at young ages the importance of safe tackling should be implemented. This will spread awareness of the dangers and how all athletes can be affected by concussions.

  6. I think that concussions in sports are overlooked and are very important to be informed about. They can lead to life changing injuries or even death. In most cases concussions are just a part of the game. Concussions usually happen by accident but the treatment and symptoms of a concussion should be more known especially to sports players. There are a few ways to minimize concussion risk like training your neck. For younger players they should wear helmets because they are more likely to get concussions. The athletes that want to keep playing are not a part of the problem. They just want to keep playing the game and have fun but coaches should be able to realize the symptoms of concussions and take care of their players.

  7. I believe concussions in todays sports are a huge issue because of how early they can happen, also how they can affect your life in the long future. Some concussions are weaker than others, but still bad. If it is 4th degree, obviously it can and will affect your life for a long time. If you get multiple concussions, it can lead to very bad, life changing conditions. There are a few ways to prevent these, but they can happen at any point in time and you will never know when they could happen. In sports, more advanced helmets with definetly help prevent but it does not mean that they wont happen. Overall they are definetly preventable and can be very hurtful if they do happen.

  8. I think that concussions in sports is a huge deal. I think that they should be monitoring concussions at all times because with second impact syndrome it is very serious and can change someone's life forever. It is so sad to hear about these amazing athletes that have a huge future in front of them that can pursue their future because of a concussion. I don;t think that concussions are being blown out of proportion because it does affect someone's life if it gets that bad. Concussions are a very serious injury because it messes with your brain which controls all of your body functions. I think that as coaches they should be testing the players before they go back in to field and this may reduce the effect of second impact syndrome. It shouldn't be the players job to know if they have a concussion, there should be other medical professionals there to determine whether that player has a concussion. I think that to keep younger generations from getting concussions, they should be taught the right way to tackle. I don’t think that parents are the problem in the end because no parent wants to see their kid suffering from brain damage just from a sport. Overall, I think that concussions should be taken more seriously because the brain controls everything in your body.

  9. I believe that concussions is a big issue and I feel like its very important to monitor them. Sports leagues are realizing the effects of concussions. Concussions can change a persons life forever if not taken seriously. I do not think that concussions are being blown out of proportion because there are life threatening results. They mess with your brain which controls your body functions. Coaches definately should test their players and athletes. Testing before they go back may reduce the second imoact syndrome. I do believe that younger generations should have to take classes if they are in sports becuase they need to be aware of what concussions could do. Parents arent the problem. No parent wants their kid to be hurt and possibly suffer long term effects.

  10. I think concussions are a serious thing that can happen at any moment. You as a player never know when a concussion can happen, but organizations can make safer changes to prevent them. Concussions are a big thing because it can put your best players out for a period of time. I think that sports leagues at times try to keep it secret so they can bring their athletes back when they feel the need. Concussions are not just part of the game they can happen out of a game doing anything. Yes we should be working on finding a way to minimize them because technology is always advancing. For example look at football helmets evolution. Parents can be part of the problem telling their kids to make bigger hits and not educating them. Athletes that have a concussion should sit out because it can lead to bigger future problems.

  11. I believe that concussions are serious and that you can get one without banging your head on something. I think that sports are taking it more serious now because research has shown on retired athletes that have been hit in the head a lot and it damages your brain. I feel like they try to keep it a secret because they might need that person for a certain game. Concussions aren't just part of the game they can happen at anytime. I feel that coaches should teach kids on how to hit and protect their heads so they can try and prevent a concussion. I think keeping the tackle grades 3-6 should stay, so the coaches can teach the players on how to hit and protect their heads. I think it can be some players faults because they know they have a concussion but they don't want to sit out for a week or two, so they keep playing. Concussions are serious and I think we need to take it more seriously.

  12. Concussions are very important and serious, especially as an athlete. Over time sports leagues are seeing a very dramatic affect of what concussions can do. It can change the way your brain works and so sports leagues are trying their best to prevent them. I believe coaches should test their players right after they have a collision to be sure that they do not have a concussion and prevent second impact syndrome. For younger generations, coaches should be teaching their players how important it is to keep your head safe and teach them ways/ tricks to help decrease the chances of concussions. Parents should also take their children to doctors a little more often just to be on the safe side. Overall, I think concussions should be taken more seriously because it can be life threatening.

  13. When it comes to sports, making sure the athletes are healthy is very important. Many people can get a concussion, whether it's through sports, car accidents, or a simple hit to the back of the head. Concussions in sports is a very series thing for the coach and athlete to worry about. In the past, I do think sports were overlooking the dangers of a concussion, but over these past few years people are understanding the risks of an untreated concussion. There is no way to completely eliminate concussions, but I do think we need to find ways to reduce the chances of a concussion especially for athletes. For tackle football at grade 3-6, I think there should be making the helmets stronger to protect the kids heads. The children's brains are still developing at these ages, which means there is a higher risk for concussions, which can lead to future complications or even deaths. In the end, no matter what concussions will always be a concern.

  14. I think concussions in sports should be taken very seriously. They should be taken more seriously than any other type of injury. I don't think they are being blown out of proportion. The long term effects from concussion can be life altering and very scary. I don't think that it is the league trying to keep them a secret, I think the players want to hide it more. No athlete wants to sit out of games, so many lies about having concussions so that they can play. Many players have come out saying that they lied about concussion just so they could continue to play. So I think players are partially to blame for the concussion problem. In a way, concussions are just part of the game. It will be a long time until there are helmets or other equipment that can fully prevent concussions. I think the only way to minimize concussions is to improve helmet/equipment technology and coach proper techniques on hitting and tackling. I think for younger kids playing sports, coaches and parents really have to teach kids how to play their sports safe. They need to teach them how to avoid concussions in everything they do. If you teach kids how to play safe at a young age, there will be a better chance that they will play safe later in life.

  16. I think concussions are very serious because they can cause permanent brain damage, and it's very easy to get a concussion while playing sports. Concussions are a big deal because of how much damage they can do to your brain. I think the stats are being hidden in certain circumstances, if a big game is coming up they won't have their starting players sit out for and miss it. Concussions are part of the game, because no matter what you play, you can get them. I don't think they will ever be 100% preventable. We should be trying to find a way to minimize them, such as equipment improvements, rules, different ways to perform an action like tackling. Tackle football at that young of an age is very dumb. Kids don't know about concussions and they don't know how to avoid them. Parents are definitely part of them problem, they push their kids harder and that puts a lot of stress on the kids. Athletes that want to keep playing are a big part of the problem. They won't get help or tell anybody if they think they have a concussion or have symptoms of a concussion, because they are scared they will have to sit for a period of time and miss games and practices.

  17. Concussions need to be taken seriously, if you dont notice it at first it could end up getting worse. Kids and teenagers are way more susceptible to getting a concussion in sports. They can cause permanent brain damage, some kids might even know they have one but dont want to tell someone that they do just because they dont want to sit the bench. Some players are to blame for this type of stuff because they hide it as it continues getting worse and worse until something happens to their brain and they could end up dying or being paralyzed and not playing sports ever again. The athletes need to stay healthy and need to checked up on sometimes by coaches if theyve taken a hit or something like that. No matter what sport you do, concussions happen at any time and I think when youre starting a sport for the first time or it being the beginning of the season the coaches should go over some rules on how to avoid being hit in the head and just stuff like that. Not only would it make the kids more aware of their surroundings but it would teach them to avoid that type of contact and at least prevent some type of injury.

  18. I think that helmet technology has advanced so much in the past few years. There is a new company called Vicis that has revolutionized helmet technology. Unfortunately they have gone bankrupt, and I’m hoping for someone to buy them out. Their new tech is explained like this - think of an old car, it was hard on the outside to protect the car, but not the passengers. New cars have crumple zones to absorb the impact of a crash. Vicis is like this. Old helmets are hard to protect the skull, but not the brain. Vicis’s helmet is flipped, they use a softer plastic with a harder interior, so the helmet flexes when hit, protecting the brain from concussions. I really hope someone funds Vicis. They have the best helmet that’s been tested by the NFL, and it’s a shame they are going out of business.

  19. Concussions in sports are a big deal, but athletes and fans seem to think they aren't. Concussions can cause permanent brain damage and have forced many football players to retire. Some sports probably try to hide the stats so they have an advantage over their opponent. Football helmets are the safest they have ever been, but players still suffer from concussions all the time. Young kids might suffer worse from this because they are so young and still developing their brains. I don't really think parents are part of the problem because concussions are just part of the game, like in football. Even after they get concussions, I think athletes still want to play because they love the sport that they are playing.
