Vision Training

Watch the video clips and post a blog comment of what you think about reaction time, genetics vs, training,  the products, etc..  You must also reply to a classmates post as well.  I would appreciate full thoughts and not just a sentence.

  1. Do you think that this type of training would help you? Why or why not? Could you also do auditory training?

    1. I Think this training would help because its allowing you to think faster and gain that muscle memory. I Believe you could do auditory training if you have something that beeps and you have to go into a certain direction or press a button every time you here a certain noise.

    2. I do not think that intensive training with any of these would help because I only pole vault and the only thing that I would use the strobes for is my approach, everything else is muscle memory.

    3. I think this type of training would definitely help me because as a tennis player, you need to have good peripheral vision and quick reaction times in order to be a good player. Auditory training would also be effective, but I think the vision training would help me more.

    4. I think this type of training would help me because I need good peripheral vision and I need good reaction time. I dont need auditory training since I'm on defense so I just have to watch the ball.

    5. I think this training would help anyone. My reaction to light is slower than sound since I process sound faster. I feel training this could balance out my skills and improve my brain processing light.

  2. Reaction time definitely comes with time and practice the longer you have been doing something that involves it the quicker you will be at it

  3. I really like the idea of the Nike strobe glasses because it allows you to make moves even when you can't see so when you take them off it will be easier for you to react and make quicker decisions.

    1. I agree with this because its going to make athletes better and make watching and playing the sport so much better

  4. I agree with this training because its helping an athlete no matter what. The strobe glasses seemed to work really well because after they took off the glasses they said that the tennis ball looked like a beach ball and obviously a beach ball is easier to catch. I also liked the peripheral vision one because the more you would train it the better you will do.

    1. I agree with you, I believe that even your peripheral vision needs to be strengthened to be good at sports.

    1. I agree that reaction times come with practice because if you work on it everyday you will get better

  6. I think reaction time can be improved with some of those machines they used. I feel that training will get you farther than genetics because you can work on it every single day. The product that I thought was the dynavison board because it makes you look around and react quickly.

    2. I strongly agree with what you have here I do believe genetics may play a smaller role in it compared to hard work and practice

  8. I think that the strobe glasses would help significantly with your visual processing times. TO me it makes complete sense that you can train your mind as you can train your body. The other tow training methods would help, but not nearly as much as the strobe glasses. I think auditory training would help as well, as long as your sport requires quick sound reactions.

    1. Could you look up and see if there is any auditory training for track or cc and share the link?

    2. I couldn't find anything specifically for running sports. However I did find auditory training for swimmers which is virtually the same as sprinters as they both have to react quick to a gun. A study was run to see if electric horn start times for swimmers would get lower the more they trained, and studies showed that the swimmers that trained for a month improved noticeably.

  10. I think reaction time a is very important skill to have, especially if you play a sport. In order to improve your reaction time, you need to train. Some of the makeup of your reaction time is genetic, but I think it can definitely be trained. The Nike Strobe glasses are super cool and would be a cool tool to train your reaction time. The Dynavision board and span systems are amazing and would also be very good for training peripheral vision and reaction time.

    2. I agree that reaction time is a very important skill to have and training is needed to improve them. The Dynavision board is one example of how you can improve your eye-hand coordination.

  11. I think reaction time is mainly training because you need to build up your muscle memory. However, genetics do play a role, such as with your eyesight and hearing. Training is a big part of reaction time, hence the videos we just watched. Those machines help train athletes to strengthen their coordination and reactions. I believe that this could help me with my reaction time and yes you could also do an auditory one.

    1. What about doing this in offseason training?

      Delete
    2. I agree with your comment about how using the glasses will take long hours of practice to improve anything, I think that if you are a pro athlete that will play this game for years to come, then the glasses will be more effective

    3. Offseason training would be a perfect use for these goggles. They are very low profile and can be used in pretty much any situation. This could perfect your skills while in the offseason.

  13. This type of training would help an athlete improve. For instance, the Nike strobe glasses help athletes pay more attention and focus more on that they are doing, to catch, throw, and more. Also, the Dynavision span and board help athletes with the peripheral vision. The use of this type of training would be beneficial to athletes. I think you could do some type of auditory training to help with reactions.

    1. I agree with what you said about the Nike glasses because the athletes would focus more on what needs to be accomplished.

    2. I agree, because I think that athletes become better with more training and practice. Also, I agree that the Nike strobe would help athletes improve their visual skills, coordination, and reflexes because it helps them to focus.

  14. I think that reaction time plays a major role in sports. The better reaction time you have the stronger chance you have of completing the task better or quicker. Training it helps because you can always improve yourself and with new products coming out there are more ways you can train it.

    1. Which one of these do you think would help the most for LAX? What about cheerleading?

      Delete
    2. I don't think these would be helpful for cheer because reaction time in cheer isn't very important. You dont have to catch anything and all you're using is muscle memory for the form of your tumbling and remembering the motions.

      Delete
    3. It would help a lot for lacrosse because while using the goggles for practice will limit the eyesight which when they are removed will increase your reaction time which is needed for catching and passing and making quick decisions.

  15. I think the Nike Strobe glasses and the dynavision are good tools for athletes to use. When athletes used the Nike Strobe glasses they said basic tasks like catching a tennis ball seemed easier once they took the glasses off. When their vision was partially taken away, having it back could improve their basic abilities. The Dynavision could also help athletes with their peripheral vison and learning how to trust it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I like the Dynavision because it really lets you see how well your peripheral vision is. Also it will help you see movement better as you keep using it because your eyes will become used to seeing such a small movement in the corners of your eyes.

    1. I also agree that the dynavision would improve seeing little movements and can help in many different sports. Do you think Dynavision could help you improve as a linebacker?

  18. I think that this type of training would not be good for me because I'm pretty much blind in my right eye so it's already like a got a strobe on one of my eyes.

  19. I think that the Nike Strobe glasses would be difficult to train with at first, however, it would be effective in improving your hand-eye coordination by taking away some of your vision. The Dynavision board as well as the Dynavision ISpan would be two good methods of practice to try and better not only your reaction time, but also your peripheral vision. If I were to use any of these products I would choose the Nike Strobe glasses because I think that it would be beneficial to use for any sort of softball drills.

    1. I agree that training is helpful because that is how you can get better and improve.

  22. Doing enough training could help improve your reaction time like how an athlete uses the lights for soccer practice which can help him learn to get around and react faster.

  23. I think that anyone can be trained to have good psychomotor ability skills. For example, with the Dynavision board, people can train not only their peripheral vision skills, but they can also train to develop fast reflexes and quick reaction time. The more you practice, the better your skills will eventually become. I think athletes become successful through training moreso than genetics, because those that put in the time and repeat certain exercises will develop the necessary skills like muscle memory, decision making, and hand-eye coordination.

I believe that reaction time is one of if not the most important tool within a athletes arsenal.Geneitics matter hugely but arent the end all and be all.Training is one thing that matters more than genetics is most cases. Finally ,all the products were cool but the nike vapor glasses in my opion were the best, becasue it stresses your system easily which causes changes fast for the better in terms of reaction time ando ther components of fittness.

  25. I think the Nike Vapor Strobes are a really cool idea, I found it interesting that they could use technology to take away information from athletes to make them rely on muscle memory more, so as to make them more efficient. I also believe that reaction time isn't mostly about genetics, I feel like training and hard work will cause significantly better speeds.

  26. I think that the Nike glasses would be the most effective compared to the other products. The glasses would help athletes by improving their reaction time and their decision making because of the strobe light.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think reaction time is different between all athletes in different sports. Training these abilities are not easy but with time they can be mastered. Like a football player could have better eye-hand coordination than a tennis player, but it could also be the other way around. It all depends on the position you play and how much you use your senses in those positions. For example, the Dynavision board helped athletes improve their eye-hand coordination by pressing red lights that appeared in small white squares while looking straight at a blue square.

    1. Very good thought about about the position an athlete plays might have something to do with senses and reactions

  29. Why might the strobe glasses not be good for everyone?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. From the strobe lights people could potentially have seizures.

      Delete
    2. The strobe glasses might not be good for everyone because some people don't play sports that require fast reaction times and some don't play sports at all.

      Delete
    3. Because some people might have epilepsy and could cause a seizure.

      Delete
    4. They might not be good for everyone because of the sport that they play in. The glasses might not have the same benefits for all sports that people participate in.

      Delete
    5. The Nike Strobe glasses might not be a good training tool for everyone because it could be the type of sport they play or because they don't have that good of hand-eye cordnation yet and taking away part of your vision with the glasses it could make training even harder for you to learn and train.

    6. If someone who has less than normal 20/20 vision skills tried to use them then it would take away more of their vision, which would not be effective. In fact, it would probably be dangerous to use them for training so they could just use one of the other practicing tools, such as the Dynavision ISpan.

    9. Some atheletes could be epiletic or it would be useless if they do not play a sprt that has hand-eye coordination.

      Delete
    10. Some people may not need hand-eye cordination training and more basic training so training something they already have wont help what they don't.

      Delete
  30. Because athletes that have epilepsy wouldn't have a fun time training with them.

  34. I think the Nike glasses are a great way to increase hand-eye cordiantion and also a great way to increase awarness. When an athelete takes them off after using them to practice it will almost seem like they got a whole new skill, being able to use there vision the whole time a ball is moving at them. The Dynavision is great to strengthen peripheral vision by having to move back and fourth, left and right being able to only use your peripheral vision. The light flashing will almost make it pop more so you get used to seeing something coming at you out of the corner of your eye like a defender or a ball.
